Affiliations

In the vast majority of cases, when I recommend a Web site or a product, I have no connection of any sort with that site or product. There are a few exceptions. I am an affiliate with three companies: Amazon, Camden-Grey (a seller of essential oils), and Bench and Field (maker of an organic cat food). Though I strongly support these companies, with the exception of Amazon, I have chosen not to use the "affiliate" links, which might earn me some commission, but to instead just link to them directly.

This choice is partly because I am just not the aggressive marketing type and partly because I prefer to maintain my credibility when recommending products. No matter what, if someone is an affiliate and especially if they can potentially make money off it, a recommendation from them has less weight than a neutral third party.

The bottom line: Over the years I have been extremely happy with the quality of Camden-Grey's products and services, so I am quite happy to recommend them whether I make any money or not. Ditto for Bench and Field--the best cat food I have yet tried. And Amazon.com, of course, is the leader in quality books offered at discount prices. Maybe because I am a former librarian, I don't mind having my affilliate information in my recommended books links.

In regard to my Web site re-design: The lovely world and doves image came from DreamweaverTemplates.com; they have many Web page sets you can buy and customize. Alas, the coding in the files I purchased is rather heinous and not valid XHTML, so I've had to spend a lot of time updating the pages. Nonetheless, it still saved me a lot of time, so check them out if you wish.
